Synopsis from Amazon:
Emi Harrison has avoided her ex-fiance, Jack Cabot, for nearly two years. Her twin brother Evan’s wedding is about to end that streak.
From bad bridesmaid’s dresses, a hyperactive sister-in-law, a mean girl with even meaner secrets, and too much to drink, nothing seems to go right for Emi, except when she’s wearing her little gray dress.
When she speed-walks into Liam Jaxon’s bar, things get more complicated. He’s gorgeous, southern, and has no past with Emi. He may be exactly what she needs to prove for the last time that she doesn’t need or want Jack!
Her favorite little gray dress has made an appearance at nearly every major event in Emi’s adult life. Will it make another grand appearance when she least expects it?
Let me start by telling you, I finished this book in less than a day- I did not want to put it down! This book had me gasping for air -> it’s both funny and surprising! Don’t get me wrong- there was a perfect balance of everything else- the happy, sad, unbelievable and funny, but I craved the humor that was drizzled within these pages. Emi’s story was interesting to say the least- the back story of her breakup was heartbreaking and I had so much sympathy for her throughout the wedding festivities. I enjoyed how the chapters swayed between the present and years prior. It really helped me understand Emi and Jack’s relationship and was done so in a regressing, timeline every other chapter.
Emi’s friendship with Lily was endearing, as she’s just the kind of friend she needed to get through everything. Hannah was Hannah- lol. You’ll understand when you read it. Most characters were so personable and likeable in this story- except Greta- I wanted to poke her in the eye with a stick.
Brown gave us more and more about the characters as the story continued and I felt connected to them by the time the story ended. Emi was a beautifully crafted character- a confident size 12, who was the perfect protagonist. Although sure of herself, she really grew throughout the novel. I may or may not have teared up a bit at that ending…
This is right up the alley of those who enjoy watching a hallmark movies or other popular romantic comedies! If you are a fan of Emily Giffin, Sophie Kinsella, or similar rockin’ chick lit authors, you need to put Aimee Brown on your radar! Her debut novel was refreshing and a dazzling display of what she’s capable of! My only complaint about the book is that I want to know what happened next- I wish it didn’t end!
As always, Happy Reading!
